This past April, Pete Rock released a new studio project titled The Return of the SP1200. Made up of previously-unreleased instrumentals originally recorded between 1990 and 1998, the aforementioned album delivered 15 original productions to listeners. Now, further supporting that full-length, Pete Rock is serving up a special short film to accompany The Return of the SP1200. Pete Rock’s politically-minded Shots Fired film was directed by Hezues R, and is soundtracked by select cuts from its coinciding musical project, such as “Take A Knee” and “Hope The World Don’t Stop (Before I Get Mines).”
“Harassed for his political associations, a white student brings a weapon to a predominately black high school,” reads Shots Fired‘s official synopsis.
“This will be my 1st release of 2019. The Return Of The SP1200 instrumental lp with beats from like 1990-97-98 I never used. The rejects or just beats that I never did nothing with,” Pete Rock shared in a January statement posted to Instagram, breaking down The Return Of The SP1200. “Gonna be variations of the way I do instrumental albumsCOMING SOON!!! All scratches and excerpts by the beat junkie himself @jrocc210 who has done a wonderful job — people love good music. We love hip hop still, don’t ever get it f*cked up.
